Fox & Friends Continues To Pimp Kyle Olson Book On Public School "Indoctrination"
In their ongoing effort to demonize public school teachers as agents of the evil, librul, Merka hating agenda, Fox & Friends has, of late, secured the services of Kyle Olson who is head of the "Education Action Group" which was described, by Gretchen Carlson, as a group "dedicated to education reform." Sounds innocent enough; but the reality is that it is a right wing group that is opposed to teachers unions and committed to privatizing public education. Last week, Olson appeared on Fox & Friends where he pimped his book about how public school teachers are indoctrinating kids with facts about stuff like AIDS and environmental awareness. Flash forward to this week and Olson, who writes for Andrew Breitbart's blog, is back for a repeat performance, during which he channels a little Joe McCarthy in his screed about how public schools are "brainwashing" the students which is quite ironic given that the propaganda on Fox & Friends is on constant spin cycle!
The title of the Fox video, part of the "The Trouble With Schools," says all you need to know: "Are Unions Brainwashing Your Kids." (No, but Fox is brainwashing the parents!) Yesterday, Clayton Morris started the agitprop wash cycle immediately: "We told you about teachers accused of using the classroom to promote their own left leaning political views." As he introduced his guest, Kyle Olson, the Cavuto marked chyron provided the Fox message: "Subverting American exceptionalism? Olsen: Teachers Pushing Liberal Politics." Video was played of a student who uttered absolute blasphemy about how, when he becomes employed after graduation, he wants to join a union for job protection. Olson said that contrary to his critics, he "doesn't hate teachers" (Really?) but he's trying to show parents that indoctrination is "happening." He whined about how a teacher from Wisconsin took photos of the demonstrations and, in the classroom (claimed to be second grade), compared them to Civil Rights photos. The agitprop chyron supported the meme: "Pushing Their Own Politics, Olson: Teachers Promoting Liberal Agenda." Olson asserted that this is part of a scary "agenda" which includes a teacher who, according to Olson asked her students to write to the school board about budget cuts. Morris provided the Fox lesson: "So she was getting students to do her dirty work for her." Of course, you don't get to hear the teacher's side of the story in which she claims that she was not asking the third grade kids to protest but to express their thoughts, feelings, and questions."
Considering that this piece was Olson's right wing propaganda, the "Cavuto marked" chyron was laughable: "Propaganda in the Schools, Olson, Teachers Push Their Own Politics." To Morris' question of whether kids have the right to know about the value of the work place, Olson agreed but then cited age appropriateness and how "we're seeing a real bias." He accused the teachers of protesting because they want more money rather than being concerned about how money is spent. He complained that California high school students were taught about how to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement because these were skills that they might use in the future. (Truly seditious) Olson felt that because 80% of the labor force isn't unionized, this assignment wasn't relevant. (There probably aren't that many students who become doctors; but we still teach them biology) Morris finished the agitprop: "Others on the left would say get them started early, get them started young, appreciating unions."
Comment: Not only did Fox "News" feature Olson on a TV show; but Fox Nation sourced Olson's "Big Government" article about how - are ya ready for it - a California teacher is using Media Matters "anti-FoxNews" material in his World History class. Olson describes MMFA as a "far left reactionary outfit." The title of the Fox Nation article is "Teacher Caught Brainwashing Kids With Media Matters Propaganda." ("Brainwashing" was the Fox spin and not part of the title of Olson's article) The MMFA article provided information from the Economic Policy Institute, a group that focuses on the problems of low and middle income workers, which countered a right wing Heritage Foundation study that suggested that teachers are overpaid. But seriously, how can any Fox News talker talk about left wing "indoctrination" with a straight face?! And Fox Nation is concerned about Media Matters "propaganda." Really?!
